Lib Dems in call to save Harborough Magistrates Court

9.17.33pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 1st Jul 2010

Harborough's Liberal Democrat councillors have thrown their weight behind the campaign to save the Magistrates Court in Market Harborough and is set to launch a petition this Saturday in the town centre.

Cllr Phil Knowles, chairman of Market Harborough Liberal Democrats, says:

"We acknowledge the difficulties the government is facing and the need to save money, but this must be balanced against the need for justice to be seen to be done. The Magistrates Court in Market Harborough delivers local justice in the local community. The need to travel to Leicester will have considerable implications to for witnesses, so we are asking Kenneth Clarke and his department to look at this again."
