The public concern at the possible loss of the Magistrates Court in Market Harborough was very evident as shoppers stopped to sign the petition in the town centre on Saturday morning. Within minutes over 100 residents had put their names to the petition against the loss of another local facility.

Harborough's Liberal Democrat councillors have thrown their weight behind the campaign to save the Magistrates Court in Market Harborough and is set to launch a petition this Saturday in the town centre.

The Focsa waste site in Great Bowden - which has been operating without planning permission for six months - was dealt a major blow last week when Leicestershire County Council rejected the planning application, leaving the situation in total confusion.

Liberal Democrats in Market Harborough continue to lead the community campaign for a new or upgraded hospital in town. Following a string of broken promises by the Primary Care Trust it was confirmed by the Trust board that without third-party funding of around £7.5m there will be no new facility or major improvements.

The Primary Care Trust (PCT) for Leicestershire and Rutland looks set for a rough ride when its board meeting is held in Market Harborough on tomorrow (Thursday). the meeting is being held at the Methodist Church, Northampton Road and starts at 2 p.m.

Last night was the final of the three televised Leaders' debates. Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, debated with Gordon Brown and David Cameron about the economy. Subjects discussed included breaking up the banks, creating more jobs and reinvigorating the British economy.
